Brewers open ’24 home season April 2

The Milwaukee Brewers open the 2024 home season April 2, again one of the least-talked-about Major League Baseball teams in the preseason. But the same could be said last season and the Brewers again finished at the top of the National League’s Central Division.

This year the question marks are many, beginning with a new manager, veteran Pat Murphy, who replaced home-town-hero Craig Counsel after he moved to division-rival Chicago. Also missing from last year’s team are two of baseball’s best pitchers: Corbin Burnes, now with the Baltimore Orioles, and Brandon Woodruff, sidelined by an injury.

Bolstered by Rys Hoskins, acquired from the Phillies, and young players like Brice Turang, Joey Wiemer, Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell, the Brewers should have more offensive punch than a year ago. In addition, veterans Willy Adames, and Christian Yelich could bounce back from subpar years and much is expected from rookie-sensation Jackson Chourio.

One thing is certain, seats at American Family Field are always filled for the home opener and early-season games, especially when the first two games are against the Minnesota Twins. Large contingents of Twins fans always travel to Milwaukee, where the field’s retractable roof guarantees games will be played, regardless of the weather.
