HYFIN

Radio Milwaukee launched its new channel, HYFIN, on June 19 (Juneteeth Day), 2022. HYFIN’s dynamic music playlist includes jazz, hip-hop, R & B, and soul. The channel celebrates and amplifies Black voices in the Milwaukee area and beyond. “We have gotten some amazing feedback,” said Tarik Moody, HYFIN Program Director. “Folks are telling us that this is the only station they listen to. One person said they discovered at least 10 new artists in one day.” Collaboration with area businesses and organizations is a priority for HYFIN. Besides organizing an anniversary celebration on Juneteenth Day, HYFIN will host a gala in August, Black, Brown & Brews, an event highlighting brewers and micro-brewers from minority communities, in September, and the Blackity Black Holiday Market in December. HYFIN will also partner with streetwear clothing brand Unfinished Legacy. Moody added that some of the channel’s long-term goals include “creating a bridge between the Black community in Madison and the Black community in Milwaukee.” “We also would love to create a major festival within the next two to three years that would attract folks from all over the country,” he said.
