Milwaukee Chamber Theatre: HOOPS
March 10 – April 2
A dynamic stage adaptation of local multidisciplinary artist Nicole Acosta’s internationally acclaimed portrait project, which examines the role hoop earrings play in culture, identity and history through a series of portrait interviews with diverse individuals.
Exploring themes of love, resistance, protection, freedom, belonging and more, HOOPS, adapted by Eliana Pipes, is directed by San Francisco-based Patrice Amon and stars Los Angeles-based Celia Mandela Rivera. HOOPS is part of World Premiere Wisconsin, a statewide festival highlighting new plays.
The production features contributions from Milwaukee artists, including a groovy original score from composer Britney “B~Free” Freeman-Farr, actors Paulina Lule and Ashley Oviedo, scenic and props designer Madelyn Yee, costume designer Kyndal Johnson, lighting designer Ellie Rabinowitz, and sound designer Peter Clare.
