Fine Arts Quartet Festival
July 10 – July 12
July 10, 7:30pm (pre-concert talk 6:30pm) & July 12, 3pm (pre-concert talk 2pm)
This May, the internationally renowned Fine Arts Quartet celebrated its 80th anniversary — and 55 years in residence in Milwaukee (1963–2018) — with a six-concert series here. The Quartet returns for two concerts of chamber piano music. Both performances are free and open to the public.
On July 10, pianist Gisele Witkowski joins the Quartet for Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 3, followed by pianist Fabio Witkowski for Brahms’s Piano Quintet.
On July 12, pianist Alon Goldstein and bassist Patricia Weitzel join the Quartet for chamber arrangements of Mozart’s Piano Concertos Nos. 11, 12, and 13. The program continues the Fine Arts Quartet’s ongoing collaboration with Goldstein to perform and record rediscovered transcriptions by Ignaz Lachner for piano, string quartet, and bass — a project that has brought rarely heard 19th-century arrangements back to the concert stage.
