The Milwaukee Art Museum’s (MAM) current exhibit Art, Life, Legacy: Northern European Paintings in the Collection of Isabel and Alfred Bader, showcases the Baders’ impressive collection of 17th-century Dutch masters, including Rembrant van Rijn and Jan Lievens, while highlighting the couple’s interesting lives and munificent contributions to the art world. 

The exhibit also explores the major changes that took place in Dutch society over this period.

The collection of 75 paintings was assembled by the Baders, longtime MAM supporters and instrumental in the development of the European art program at the museum. The exhibit opens with scenes from the Hebrew Bible, which illustrate themes of faith, struggle, generosity, family, sacrifice and journey

Art, Life, Legacy is presented by the MAM in collaboration with Agnes Etherington Art Centre at Queen’s University. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 28, 2024. For more information, visit
