Lynden Sculpture Garden

Lynden Sculpture Garden

Time is Running Out, Faythe Levine’s exhibition celebrating the lives of two women who left a significant impact on Milwaukee’s cultural landscape, is on display at Lynden Sculpture Garden through March 14. The exhibition is accompanied by an eponymous risograph publication, a collection of essays by Faythe Levine.

Levine’s exhibit includes archival materials, stories, and objects from Charlotte Partridge (1882-1975) and Miriam Frink (1892-1977). For over fifty years, their devotion to each other and to Wisconsin—as co-founders of the Layton School of Art, participants in the Federal Art Project, and as members of numerous civic clubs—had a profound impact on greater Milwaukee.

Visitors to Lynden Sculpture Garden can also view more than 50 monumental sculptures, plants, and wildlife on the museum’s forty acres of park.

Lynden also offers a number of arts and craft, along with nature and cultural, programs for adults and children.

Admission to Lynden is free, and its hours are 10-5 daily. The museum is closed Thursdays.

Next Act Theatre

Next Act Theatre’s upcoming production Swing State, which runs Feb. 11-March 8, explores themes of longing for community.

Written by Rebecca Gilman and directed by Cody Estle, Artistic Director of Next Act Theatre, the play is set in Cardiff Township, a fictional community in Wisconsin’s Driftless Region, where Gilman herself resides. Part mystery and part drama, Swing State follows Peg, a recent widow who spends her days tending native plants on her 40-acre property; Ryan, a family friend with a questionable past; and a theft that unsettles the community. The play explores how neighbors can support one another even amid distrust and isolation.

Swing State played off-Broadway in 2023. The Chicago Tribune called it “perhaps the first of the great American post-COVID plays,” and this production marks its Wisconsin debut.

Swing State features actors Tami Workentin as Peg Smith, Jack Lancaster as Ryan Severson, Kelli Strickland as Sheriff Kris Callahan Wisnefski and Elyse Edelman as Deputy Dani Wisnefski.

March 2 is a Pay What You Can performance.
