galleries - may 2010

Milwaukee’s vibrant gallery scene provides excitement every month, with numerous special events.

LANDMARKS GALLERY, 231 N. 76th St., hosts In and Around the Lakes: Wisconsin Wonderland May 22-June 30. The show features rural Wisconsin in an exhibit and sale of the work of Terry Doughty, award-winning Wisconsin artist. Also exhibiting will be Gregory Rodriguez of Stoughton, Wis.

Doughty’s works will include “Berry Patch Bears,” black bear and cubs; “Leap of Freedom,” muskie and lure and “Meadow Retreat,” cardinals. Wisconsin lakes and landscapes surround the images. Also, from May 1-July 1, Landmarks Gallery offers 15% off custom framing. Use the KeyMilwaukee.com coupon.

The historic PFISTER HOTEL, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave., hosts local artist Katie Musolff in its annual Artist in Residence program. The program, which began last year, features a working art studio and gallery on the lobby level of this historic hotel. As the resident artist, Musolff will spend significant time creating new art and interacting with visitors and hotel guests. The extraordinary architecture and priceless Victorian art collection also make the Pfister a must-visit for art lovers.

MORNING GLORY GALLERY at 929 N. Water St. inside the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts gives a nod to spring with garden art by Debbie Radke. Also on display and available for sale are fine crafts by members of the Wisconsin Designer Crafts Council.

DELIND GALLERY OF FINE ART is located within the George Watts & Son specialty retail store at 761 N. Jefferson St. Spring Flowers is the exhibition featured from May 1-June 5. Browse the Roses of Antonio Garcia, Pansies of Arpic Weitzer, Sunflowers of Schomer Lichtner, Zinnias of Francesco Spicuzza and water lilies of Marie Lewandowski just for starters.

North of Milwaukee
To the north of Milwaukee, Historic Cedarburg also is a center for art. At Cedar Creek Settlement, LEAP OF FAITH and CEDAR CREEK POTTERY are great stops. Don’t miss these great galleries in a charming setting. At the corner of Bridge St. and Washington Ave., ALL THAT PIZZAZZ is another must-see.
