feature article - may 2008 Historic Milwaukee's Spaces & Traces Tour May 17
Spaces & Traces is the most in-depth open house tour of the year for Historic Milwaukee. The May 17 tour features three religious structures and eight elegant private residences by Milwaukee's most noted architectural firms. Famed interior architect George Mann Niedecken was commissioned to do interior work and/or furniture design work for four of the homes. His work is currently on exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum. In conjunction with the tours, two talks will be presented and attendees will receive an extensive booklet with historical overviews. Advance, non-member tickets are available starting May 1 for $25 at all area Boston Stores, Winkies in Whiefish Bay and Sendik's on Downer Ave. Day-of tickets are $30 and will be sold at Kenwood United Methodist Church, 2319 E. Kenwood Blvd. At the beginning of June, Historic Milwaukee kicks off a summer walking tour schedule that includes the daily Downtown Thru the Eras tours and Saturday, Sunday and Twilight tours. Historic Milwaukee also offers step-on guide service for bus tours and private group and student tours. Celebrating 34 years, Historic Milwaukee is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to increasing the public's awareness of the city historical and architectural heritage. Information is available at the Historic Milwaukee office, 414-277-7795, or www.historicmilwaukee.org.
